Broadcaster Paul Cavenaugh has joined Legends 100.3 FM for morning-drive and afternoon-drive traffic reports.

Born and raised in New York, Mr. Cavenaugh’s passion for broadcasting began while in high school and intensified when he landed a weekend gig at Buffalo’s legendary WKBW Radio. Because he loved boats and hated the harsh Buffalo winters, Mr. Cavenaugh moved to Florida and joined West Palm’s WJNO radio as the afternoon deejay in December 1976, followed by stops as a news anchor at Miami’s WGBS and Studio 107. In 1984, he returned to WJNO and WRMF as Palm Beach County’s first airborne traffic reporter — a gig that lasted almost 25 years.

Despite surviving a serious helicopter crash in 1988, Mr. Cavenaugh continued his “Yellowcopter” traffic updates until being sidelined by another crash in 2008. This prompted him to retire aboard his boat PIZZAZ and spend several summers in the Bahamas and the Keys, and in 2017 he did Half-a-Loop, a 45-day boat trip from Chicago through the Great Lakes and back down to South Florida. He finally moved ashore in 2021.

“I am delighted to be joining such remarkable talents as Angela Manfredi and Steve Ketelaar in the mornings and Taylor Morgan every afternoon, where I promise to keep our Legends listeners fully informed so they can safely and conveniently avoid any irritating, time-delaying traffic obstacles,” Mr. Cavenaugh said in a news release.
